Kat von D, born Katherine von Drachenberg Galeano, is a Mexican-American tattoo artist and television personality, known for her work on the television series Miami Ink. Katherine Drachenberg was born in 1982 in Nuevo León, Mexico. Kat von D is the daughter of Argentine parents, and at the age of four, she moved to Colton, California.
Kat’s maternal grandmother played a significant role in her artistic development, particularly in music.

Early beginnings
Kat’s first tattoo was at the age of 14, a J on her ankle, symbolizing her first love, but after three years, they broke up. Despite being a brilliant student, Kat dropped out of school at the age of 14 to focus on the art of tattooing. At just 16 years old, Kat was tattooing at a rate of one person per day, but had to lie about her age.
In 1998, Kat started her first official shop, “Sin City Tattoo”, which was in her neighborhood; a year and a half later, she moved to another shop called “Blue Bird Tattoo” in Pasadena, and a year after that, she moved to “Red Hot Tattoo” in Arcadia.
Although she is very popular and has many acquaintances, she says that her true friends can be counted on one hand. Among them is her close friend Daniela, whom she describes as: “someone special to me”.”
In a few years, she started working at “Inflictions” in the outskirts of Covina, CA. This period was a time of great growth in her work, so she went to “True Tattoo”, where she had the opportunity to work with Chris Garver and Clay Decker; over time, Kat acquired a lot of talent and quality, which led her to Miami Ink and now to her own show LOS ANGELES INK and she is happy to be considered a rock idol, with thousands of fans around the world.
