Miley Cyrus is a big fan of tattoos and every now and then decides to add another one to a collection that exceeds 74. Her latest music video is just another example of the passion that ink sparks in the singer, who got her first tattoo in 2009 and had the phrase “Just breathe” under her left breast.
Initially, the reason she got this tattoo was a tribute to her friend Vanessa, who died of cystic fibrosis, and her grandparents, who died of lung cancer. The tattoo is accompanied by an image of her late dog, Floyd, and a naked woman half-submerged in a lake.
The Miley Cyrus’ Tattoos
Family Ties
Over the years, Miley Cyrus has wanted to honor her relationship with her family through tattoos. On her right arm, you can see a Harley Davidson motorcycle on her shoulder, a tribute to her father at a time when they still had a relationship that is no longer the same.
Other sentimental ones are the dreamcatcher with four feathers that symbolize her brothers, although she is no longer in contact with some of them; the word Wükong, in honor of her younger brother Braison; and a heart on her finger as a symbol of her union with her mother.
Her pets have a special place in Miley’s heart, as she has images of her pitbull, Mary Jane, her goldfish, Pablow, and Emu, her sheepdog.
Related to her partners
As a result of her relationship with Cody Simpson, the former Hannah Montana got a heart pierced with the legend “Rock & Roll Heart”, which was done as a combination with another tattoo of her ex-boyfriend.
The heart of Leonardo da Vinci on her forearm is also linked to her sentimental life, to demonstrate her love for her former husband, Liam Hemsworth. On her left arm, she has a sophisticated rose, tattooed shortly after her divorce from the Australian actor.
Other tattoos that have appeared on Miley’s body since her marriage include her favorite food, a jar of Vegemite, a Mexican sugar skull on her right ankle, and a shared tattoo with her ex-sister-in-law, Elsa Pataky, on her finger.
From her relationship with Kaitlynn Carter, the singer wanted to mark her trip to Italy with the Visconti family crest, a large dragon that decorates the top of her left forearm.
Some musical and iconic references
Her love of music is reflected in her skin, in addition to the mentioned references, she also has the word “BAD” on one of her fingers in honor of Michael Jackson and the name of Elvis in the shape of a heart.
One of the most striking is the one located on the inside of her left forearm, which corresponds to a quote from Theodore Roosevelt. The tattoo is an excerpt from the famous speech “Citizenship in a Republic” in which the former president declared: “So that their place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat”.
Messages and spirituality
One of the most striking is located on the lower back: the scene of a battle between a tiger and a dragon, a symbol of Eastern balance of the Ying and the Yang.
Following this theme of symbols, Miley Cyrus also has a tattoo of “Karma” and a symbol of equality, showing her support for those causes.
In 2021, the author of “Flowers” decided to tattoo the inside of her right ear with the word “LOVE”. The reason is simple, as she explained in an interview: “There’s so much negativity in the world, and all you need to hear is all the love”.
On her right arm, she has an ornate tusk at the base of her biceps; the silhouette of a naked woman or two crossed arrows at the elbow level; the Roman numerals VIIXCI, whose meaning is unknown; the phrase “Estoy de tu lado” (I’m on your side) with the signature of Johnny Cash; a portrait of her grandmother, and an anchor to reaffirm her security.
On the inside of her left biceps, Miley Cyrus has the phrase “Love never dies” and the symbol OM on the inside of her wrist. On her left shoulder, Miley wanted to leave a reminder of a handwritten note that Yoko Ono once wrote to Cyrus: “I’m proud of you, Yoko”.
The number 92, Cyrus’ birthdate (1992), decorates the back of her neck. As a counterpoint, a small smile decorates Miley Cyrus’ ankle, a tattoo shared with her best friend, Cheyne Thomas.
Miley Cyrus’ Largest Tattoo
After the dreamcatcher, the largest and most visible tattoo of Miley Cyrus is the Dragon and Tiger fighting, which she has on the lower back.
This symbol of Eastern culture represents the Yin and Yang in Chinese mythology. “The dragon, associated with the yang polarity, and the tiger, with the yin polarity, express the harmony of the Cosmos, of the Universe”, is found on websites related to this symbol, and Miley Cyrus honors it on her skin.
